Remember your favorite birthday games of the past? Which party did not play a few rounds of "musical chair" or "pin the tail to the donkey?" My personal favorites were "Spoon Race" and good old-fashioned "treasure hunting".
Recently, when I go to birthday parties with my children, sports are not part of the program for the most part. If a child is having their own party at home, it seems that you are more likely to find a bounce house or a recreational house. The theme and activities of the birthday party are consistent with what everyone is doing for everyone. Maybe the classic games are out of style?

4 Classic Fun Party Games For Kids - Party Ideas
Classic games may not seem fresh and new to parents, but from personal experience, I can tell you that they are still a blast for children! My son turned six years old last week. The kids made a picture frame craft and then we finished the party with some classic games. My daughter and I came up with an elaborate treasure hunt with aged maps, shovels, and lots of dirt. I have never seen a group of kindergartners so excited !! We ended the party with donkeys and tails on a piñata.
Next time you're planning a party, consider some of these classics that are sure to be a hit:
Musical chairs
Line up the back, touching the two rows of chairs. You should have one less chair than the number of children playing. Play music as children moves in one direction around the chairs. When the music stops, the children need to find a seat. A child will remain without a chair. Keep playing until one child is left, winner.
Sack race
Split into two teams. Each contestant climbs into a large pillowcase or sacks and jumps along the finish line. Whichever team finishes first win the game.
Bean bag toss
For this game, you will need something to throw, a bean bag or ball, a penny, block (whatever you have to work with). You will also need a container, a bucket, or a jar which will work great. Give the children three turns to try and throw it into the container.
Estimate the amount
Fill a jar with candy, pennies, paper clips, or noodles. Each child estimates how many items are in the jar. The child who guesses the nearest amount wins the game.
Spoon Race
For this run, you will need a spoon and a small item such as egg, potato, or tomato. Have the kids line up with the object on their spoon and race to a finish line without dropping them.
Memory
Place about 20 small items on a tray. These items may follow the theme of your party. If you are having a "princess party", you can place some of the following items on a tray; Crowns, sticks, glitter, glass slippers, ribbons, jewelry, etc .... Allow children to see for about a minute what is on the tray, and then hide the tray. Using a pencil and paper, write down everything the children remember seeing on the tray. Whoever gets the most right wins!
