Take it from someone who has experience in home party decorating - it's not as complicated or difficult as it sounds. In fact, home party decorating is done in three easy steps.
First, decide on the specific topic. It's not the same as a "Halloween party" or a "Christmas party". For example, I recently held a Halloween party that seemed simple enough to decorate. However, for the home party decor, I wanted to use a very adult theme. I chose a "scary" approach in most areas, which included dim lighting and deep purples, and green and orange hues. However, I could have chosen a "traditional" approach and used only black and orange colors.

It doesn't have to be that complicated for your party. In fact, when it comes to home party decorating, the easier the item is. Pick a few things you really like, preferably large objects, and make it a focal point by placing supporting objects around it. The focus point can be food to eat, food to watch, a statue, a candle—as long as you like it. For a birthday party, a cake would be an obvious focal point. However, you may not want that person to see the cake yet so you may choose a larger one that you have wrapped as the centerpiece of the gift table, or you may choose a pinata that will be part of a game later. Will have and use it. First for decoration.
If you really like a smaller focal point, put it on something that will make it taller than the rest of the accessories. As for colors, most holidays come with traditional colors, but you can make changes to them. Example one way is to use dark green and purple instead of just dark orange for my Halloween party, or you could have a white and light blue winter theme instead of red and green for Christmas parties. For kids' birthday parties, I like to use the kids' favorite colors, or just use several bright colors when decorating for a home party.
Home party or house party
Once you've decided that, it's time to decorate—or, as I like to think about it, accessorize. This step in-home party decorating involves planning where your focal pieces will go and making sure the surrounding accessories contrast so that they can be seen. If you have a tablecloth, choose a light blue instead of white for the snowman centerpiece. If it's a large snowman, surround it with small white candles and white snowflake confetti—all of which contrast with the tablecloth in color, but the snowman in theme. Accessories can include candles, pictures, food, confetti, clothing, and more. Some of my favorites are candles, confetti, and dresses because they are inexpensive and can all be reused for other types of parties. For example,
I just found a way to use a piece of blue fabric from a spring party in an autumn display that I had on my desk here at home—actually, the fruit of autumn I've previously had. The buzz was left from the Halloween party! The final part of accessorizing involves small finishing touches that accessorize not only your focus point but your entire area of the focus point. This can be banners, balloons, streamers, crepe paper, or whatever else you can find to continue the subject from one focus point to the next. If you have a large gift table for a birthday party in the living room and a large cake table in the kitchen, you may want streamers and balloons in the door to continue the party from one room to the next.
As you can see, decorating a home party is very easy. Decide on a specific theme, choose your main color and focus point, and set accessories to match the focus point.
